I had heard about the spring break trip, but felt that it would be more beneficial for me to catch a break from studying and recharge my batteries by just “vegging out” for a week. I did feel a slight nagging inside, but I just decided to ignore it. But after some encouragement from some of my friends, I decided to go.
When we first arrived at the UCF campus, I was fairly nervous… I mean, here I am, a “baby” Christian… I haven’t even read the entire New Testament, much less have any verses memorized… How was I supposed be of any help to anyone? But as it turns out, all I needed was my testimony… the story of how God changed my life. On day one I met someone who was having the same issues that I had been struggling with before I was saved. I immediately began sharing my testimony with him because I was excited to share how Jesus helped me. He was listening so intently and I could see that his eyes were being opened to the truth. By the end of our week on the UCF campus, God had worked in his heart and he had decided to surrender his life to the Lord!
I also met another guy named Leon who opened his heart to receive God’s word. His story was very different from mine and he shared with me how he had recently almost died in a car accident. As we spoke, I did not think my testimony would affect him that much, but God was telling me to share it anyhow. So, that’s what I did. As soon as I started explaining some of the challenges I had before I became a Christian, he began telling me how he had been going through the same stuff before his accident! He knew that his sin was keeping him away from God, and he wanted to get it right. So right there, Leon surrendered his life to the Lord!
It was shortly after the spring break trip that I realized that the nagging feeling I had felt before was the Lord speaking to my heart, telling me to go on the trip. And because I listened to Him, I was able to experience the joy of witnessing two men give their lives to Jesus. I don’t always know what God has in store for me in my future, but I’m learning to trust Him and I know that it’s going to be good. ~ Scott
